This blog is going to be the place for all information regarding the sidekick position available with the JB and Sandy Morning Show.
As many of you now know, our previous sidekick resigned, moving on to pursue music. This leaves open a very fun, entertaining and interesting position work with us. This could be an intro into the radio business for you or you might be a seasoned veteran, looking to settle in a great town with a morning show that is very involved in Austin.
We will be posting a lot of details here in the upcoming week. To be honest with you, neither of us wanted to think about it too much over the holiday break. We were a bit worn out with our 11th year of Bikes for Kids and other events and just want to look at this with a fresh new perspective in the new year.
Honestly, we don't know what we are looking for. That's the thing about personality radio, especially when it's done right. If people have ever told you that you should be a DJ, your probably not right for this job. We are looking for someone interesting, witty, kind and fun. We don't know exactly what it will be, but we'll know it when we see it. This industry is filled with egomaniacs... all you have to do is bump up the dial a couple stops and find some of the most arrogant radio you have ever heard. We have a saying on our show... "check your ego at the door"
If your goal is to be famous, we're probably not interested in you. If your goal is to be on tv, this may not be the place for you. We love RADIO and hope to find someone who loves it as much as we do.
We do have some people that have some experience that have inquired about the job... and some of them are good candidates. We didn't want to leave out anyone who also might be interested in the job. You never know where good talent comes from or where it's hiding.
Just over 6 years ago, we held a contest to look for our next sidekick. It was really American Idol on for radio, just a year before that television show began. We ended up with a dozen or so great candidates, that had no radio experience. We had over 1,000 video tapes submitted to us as auditions. We found that video was a good way to get to know you in a hurry and see the most people. We are assuming that if you are interested in this position, you most likely won't have audio of you working on the radio.
Times have changed since we were sent over 1,000 tapes. Now you can make your video audition, post it on www.youtube.com and send us the link at job@jbandsandy.com
Make it a public viewed video so that the most people can see it. We will be watching the videos, posting many of them here, commenting on them and paying attention to who's getting the most hits. We may even ask you to submit more videos if we like what we see.
Feel free to submit your video. You need to do the following:
Make you video
Share your personality
Do something creative
Have fun
Post your video on www.youtube.com
Send us the link
...and you never know what may happen. This could be a life changing experience for you and could break you into an industry that we love.
I know that this may seem difficult for some of you to make a video and upload it to www.youtube.com.
If you need help, find it. Someone you know can do this. Don't email us asking us how to do it. The sidekick job on our show does require some technical skills. It's nothing too difficult, but this is a nice test on your ability to get it done or find out how to get it done. Good luck.
We'll do our best to answer most of your questions. Send them to job@jbandsandy.com
Check back her often. This is going to be a lot of fun. We are in no rush, but excited to find the right person.
